THE MUSIC OF THE CIVIL WAR

Steve Ball will outline some of the most popular Civil War songs, the composers, and the events that helped inspire the songs.  He will perform with an 1851 Martin guitar while dressed in period attire.  This event is open to the public.

The Ealy House basement will be filled to the brim with naval aviator memorabilia, including flight gear, uniforms, survival equipment, medals, photographs, and more.  This display will be of interest as the Top Gun movie has been a huge success this 2022 summer season at the theaters.

Learn about the proposed New Albany Vietnam Memorial with Renowned Artist Mike Kraus of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as we kick off fundraising for this 2025 project.  As 2025 is right around the corner, we all need to come together as a community to get this project started.  Please tell everyone who had a family member or friend that served in Vietnam.

Annual Potluck Picnic

Sat. AUGUST 3 — 5:00 p.m. at the Saveson barn, 8370 Clouse Road.
All members and their guests are invited to this very friendly and informal event. Please bring a main dish, salad, side dish, or dessert to share and its serving utensil. Also bring your own table service (but extras will be on hand). Iced tea and water will be provided.

Fall Book Festival

On Saturday, November 16th from 12 noon-4 pm, six authors will be selling their books at the historic Ealy House in New Albany! This is the first annual Fall Book Festival and I think we’re off to a great start! They’re all local authors, including alumni David Cuccia  and Maggie Barthel Mueller, from diverse backgrounds, presenting their wares in a wonderful historic landmark! There will be FREE refreshments and door prizes as well! Please join us and support our local talent. Thank you!.

July 4 Activities

 

PARADE, 11 am.  EALY HOUSE OPEN after parade until 3pm.

The New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society will be  proudly showcasing our Apollo 11 rocket and Launchpad during New Albany’s July 4th parade. Please attend the parade! The parade this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of mankind landing on the moon. The Historical Society will also welcome guests at the Ealy House until 3PM on the 4th, please stop by.

75th Anniversary of D-Day – Remembering Ohio’s Soldiers

On Thursday June 6th, the New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society will present D-Day The Seventy-Fifth Anniversary at the New Albany United  Methodist Church, 20 Third Street New Albany, Ohio. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., program starts at 7:00. Hear historian Dennis Keesee tell the stories of central Ohio soldiers, sailors, and airmen who fought on that historic day. Help us pay tribute to the fallen. Meet and honor Don Jakeway from Johnstown, Ohio, who parachuted into history with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. It will be a night to remember!

Outing to The Columbus Historical Society and tour of the World War I Exhibit

Join us on Sunday APRIL 28 at 1:30 p.m., 717 West Town Street, Columbus, OH.
The exhibit is open from 12:30 until 4:00 p.m. Dennis Keesee will lead a guided tour starting at 1:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free.  After the tour, those that wish may meet at the nearby Spaghetti Warehouse to enjoy a meal together.

As The Brave Fade Away,

The Video Biography of Pearl Harbor Survivor Milton Mapou will be the Society’s April 4, 2019 7:00 meeting presentation at Wesley Woods Senior Center 4588 Wesley Woods Blvd., New Albany, Ohio.  The video was filmed in New Albany by residents Mark Easton and Dennis Keesee with Greg Keller to raise funds to send Milt to the 2016, 75th Anniversary of the December 7, 1941 surprise attack. After an eventful life Milt at last joined his Navy friends this past January 17, 2019 at age 97.

Please join us as we remember Milt and pay tribute with a moment of silence for all the PH casualties.
